United Way of Mumbai (UWM) has known Shibani Sachdeva since 2004, when we hired her as an Executive Director. Shibani took charge of the fledgling organization soon after joining and over a 5 year period build it into a robust self-sustaining entity. She was the pillar behind UWM in its early years and drove the organization with complete dedication.
Shibani has the acumen and drive for building strong foundations for organizations, ensuring that she leaves behind a legacy that can survive and sustain. Her contributions at UWM included:

Shibani has the acumen and drive for building strong foundations for organizations, ensuring that she leaves behind a legacy that can survive and sustain. Her contributions at UWM included:
- Supporting the Tsunami relief and rehabilitation running into crores of rupees of international Grants
- Creation of Mumbai Helpline (MH), an NGO within UWM that works towards betterment of Mumbai's civic issues. Not only does MH provide much needed visibility for UWM in Mumbai, but it also helps connect UWM with various constituents such as BMC, volunteers, students and other NGO's.
- Mumbai Marathon, which has helped UWM to reap large revenues and visibility over the years.
- There were three distinct qualities that come to our mind about Shibani's commitment towards UWM:
- Her unbridled energy and passion that enabled her to drive the teams towards their targets and success.
- Her 'infectious' enthusiasm. Shibani has consistently demonstrated that she has the ability to enthuse both her team and her Board with her vision.
- Her dedication and loyalty for being a true leader who stood by her team.

Shibani has worked for Lafarge for the past 3 years and has been instrumental in creating an integrated CSR vision for Lafarge - aligning all our existing units and new projects with a common vision and approach. She helped re-activate "Nidhee", a foundation started by Lafarge India and succeeded in winning external support as well as facilitating partnerships with other organisations in the field such as BAIF, CAP Foundation, Dr. Reddy's Foundation, IIT Kharagpur, Institute of Engineers, etc thereby leveraging our efforts in the field sustainability.
She is a thorough professional and brings her vast experience of working in the not-profit sector and combines it very effectively with her experience in the corporate sector and brings in tremendous energy in her endeavors to serve the social sector.

I came in touch with Shibani Sachdeva whilst she was head of United Way Mumbai in January 2005 immediately after the Tsunami had devastated several villages in Nagapattnam district of Tamil Nadu state. From several of the NGOs we have interacted we found that Shibani was very detailed in her approach and followed a step by step manner. United Way under her leadership did a thorough check of our NGO, our activities and balance sheets etc. Only after doing the check did United Way agree to partner with SEVAI to work towards the upliftment of the affected families in Nagapattnam District.
Shibani worked diligently and patiently with us during the several phases of this fairly large project involving the construction of 300 homes in village Poombuhar, Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu. She was involved in detailed talks with the Panchayats right from land acquisition, method of allocation of houses, layout of the whole newly to be constructed village, construction details of the new houses, toilets, sewage and drainage lines, roads etc were all topics that we jointly discussed and worked on.
I must make a special mention that Shibani was deeply concerned about the ecological footprint of this project. That is why she spent significant amount of her time and energy in encouraging and inspiring all villagers and home owners to plant trees and their own kitchen gardens. On several of her visits she personally went inspecting their newly constrcuted homes and discussing with villagers as to how to increase the green cover of the village.
Today the village has a fair amount of green cover and includes approximately 500+ trees and that is thanks to this young lady.
I have no hesitation in recommending Shibani and she will be an asset to any organization she joins and we hope we can work with her once again to continue our service to society.

I must make a special mention that Shibani at every stage was meticulous and pushed for high quality benchmarks. She inspected everything from toilets to potential teachers resumes and insisted on comprehensive and diligent reporting and documentation of all phases of the project.
Today the village of Chinnkaudi has its first English speaking school with 150 students positively impacting over 100 families and in many ways Shibani through her leadership at United Way has contributed to this good substantially.
